Dry Rot and Condensation Problems
If your walls feel damp, or if your surveyor's damp meter has registered unusually high moisture readings in your walls, then you will want some specialist advice, quickly. It could simply be condensation, from the staggering amount of moisture we produce in daily living - even just by breathing! - combined with poor ventilation. On the ground floor or at basement level, rising damp or penetrating damp, where moisture comes up from the ground or is forced through porous building materials, can have a damaging effect on your walls, and on the timber in your property.
Dry rot, which is actually a fungus that thrives best in fairly moist conditions, and various wood-boring insects, all prefer a moist, warm environment, so it's important that the joists, beams, skirtings and floorboards in your home are adequately protected from these threats.
The experts here at Kenwood are available to inspect homes and business premises all over Surrey and South London - their comprehensive reports will reassure you if there is no problem, or help you with the remedial works that are necessary.
Effective Woodworm Treatment in Croydon
The evidence of woodworm infestation - the tiny holes and little piles of dust - often doesn't appear until your timber has been infected, and its structure compromised, for several months or even years. The adult furniture beetle lays its eggs on damp, untreated timber, and the larvae hatch out and burrow through the wood for up to five years, after which they pupate for about six weeks, finally emerging as adults - which is when they leave the tell-tale holes and piles of dust, also known as "frass". The adults live for 2 or 3 weeks, when they don't feed, but can travel to other bits of timber and breed, starting the cycle again.
More problematic is the House Longhorn Beetle, which is found mainly in Surrey, and is a notifiable pest. This infestation must be treated by a qualified professional, and any infestation must be notified to the Building Research Establishment.
Death Watch Beetle is even more difficult to eradicate, due to its 10 year life cycle, and can cause severe structural damage to your property.
Our trained experts can advise on eradication and prevention, the replacement of affected timbers, and treatment. Get in touch with us today if you require timber treatment and damp experts in South London.
